Sarah: Hey Jen, did you see that new Architectural Digest piece on window treatments? I was just trying to figure out what to do with our living room windows.
Jen: Oh totally! I saw it pop up in my feed. It actually got me thinking, because for ages I just stuck with whatever was easiest, you know? But now that we’ve been in Warren for a while, I’m actually looking around more at what others are doing.
Sarah: Right? And with the kids finally a bit older, I feel like I can actually think about decor again. I was at Pottery Barn in Bridgewater last week, and they had some gorgeous linen drapes. Very Scandi-chic, which I’m loving for that bright, airy feel. It’s so different from the heavy drapes we used to have.
Jen: Oh, Pottery Barn is always dangerous for my wallet! But yes, the Scandi look is so clean. I was actually over at HomeGoods in North Plainfield, and you wouldn't believe the amount of sheer options they had. I found some amazing textured sheers that just filter the light beautifully. I'm thinking of layering them with a heavier drape for winter, but keeping them simple for now.
Sarah: Smart! I was reading about that "pop of red" trend everywhere – even in that Elle Decor article. Honestly, I never thought I’d do red, but imagine a splash of it in throws or even a statement piece from Crate & Barrel or West Elm in Short Hills. It could really liven up the neutral palette we have going on.
Jen: I know! My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I saw this amazing abstract print at HomeGoods with a strong red element. I'm thinking of doing a custom Roman shade in a similar fabric. It's a small touch, but it could be really impactful. I was just thinking about that Living Etc. article on Scandi window treatments and how they make even simple things look so chic.
Sarah: Totally! And the vintage vibe is big too. My mom just bought some gorgeous antique tie-backs from a little shop in Bernardsville. I’m thinking about finding some unique, maybe even slightly worn, curtain rods or finials to add character. It's like finding a cool old lamp – it just adds a story.
Jen: That’s such a good idea! It’s funny how fashion and home decor really do feed into each other, isn't it? Like, those street style trends you see in Vogue often trickle down to what we want for our homes, just in a different way.
Sarah: Absolutely. I think the key is not getting too hung up on one trend, but finding pieces you love. So, for the living room, I’m leaning towards those linen drapes, but maybe a bolder throw pillow to get that "pop of red" without committing to red drapes. What about your place?
Jen: I’m going with the sheers, and I might even try those smart blinds everyone’s raving about. My friend just put them in, and she loves being able to control them from her phone. Sounds like a game-changer! I was actually looking at the local Budget Blinds of Bridgewater and saw they have tons of options for smart home integration, plus their reviews online are fantastic for custom measurements and installation. I think I'm going to give them a call next week. It’s all about making the home both beautiful and easy to live in, especially with our busy lives here in Warren.
