Blending Tradition and Innovation: Window Treatments for the Kappa Kappa Gamma Renovation at University of Nebraska - Lincoln

Budget Blinds of Omaha & Lincoln was thrilled to play a key role in the complete renovation and addition of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Lincoln Chapter house at University of Nebraska–Lincoln. This landmark project modernizes the historic residence and preserves the character of the original 1925 construction.

Our Role in the Project

Working directly with the owner, our product experts measured and installed:

• Classic plantation shutters by Norman Window Fashions across the main floor—chosen for their timeless style, durability, and ability to complement the home’s Tudor Revival architecture.

• Chique roller shades throughout the remainder of the building by BlocPro with light-filtering privacy fabric. These roller shades provide modern functionality, light control, and an extremely short lead time.

The result blends the durability of contemporary products seamlessly to the historic design of the building; meeting the demands of a modern sorority house and giving the residents a finished result they will be proud of for years to come.

Project Overview:

Located at 616 N. 16th Street in the heart of Lincoln, Nebraska, the Kappa Kappa Gamma Lincoln chapter house is undergoing a major renovation and addition designed to support today’s students while honoring nearly a century of history.  Budget Blinds of Omaha and Lincoln helped realize the owner’s vision through an array of products.

Project Details:

• Timeline: Construction began in June 2024, with completion targeted for Fall 2025. The incoming class will be the first to live in the newly renovated space.

• New shutters and roller shades added throughout.

• ADA accessibility improvements throughout the building.

• New Amenities including study lounges and laundry facilities on every floor, as well as a new yoga room.

• Enhanced Living Spaces: A spacious dining area and a second-floor patio were added.

• Historic Preservation: Restoration of the original front porch and a rebuilt rear addition that thoughtfully integrates new construction with the original structure.

Project Impact:

This renovation is about more than aesthetics — it’s about creating a safer, more inclusive, and more efficient environment that supports academic success, well-being, and lifelong friendships. By balancing preservation with modern design and construction, the project ensures the Kappa Kappa Gamma house will continue to serve generations of sisters for decades to come.
