My Lebanon Home: Always Evolving, Never Dated
Hey everyone,
It’s Betty from Lebanon, checking in! You know, for years, I never really thought much about "decor trends." I worked hard, saved my money, and slowly but surely, made my little house a home. But I’ve always had an eye for what looks good, what feels comfortable, and what truly makes a space mine. And what I’ve learned is, you don’t need a fancy designer or a huge budget to have a beautiful, current home. It’s all about being flexible and finding inspiration in unexpected places.
I remember when I first moved into this house here in Lebanon. The windows were just… windows. Nothing special. But over the years, I started seeing ideas. Like those vintage lights people are always talking about in the decor magazines – how a unique, older piece can really make a room. I love poking around the antique shops in Clinton and Flemington, and sometimes I find the most amazing things! I once found these beautiful, heavy brass curtain rings at a yard sale right here in town, and they completely transformed some simple drapes I already had. It wasn't about spending a fortune on "designer vintage," it was about finding that one special piece that felt right.
I've also always been a fan of bright spaces. My kitchen, especially, with its view of the rolling hills around Lebanon, just demands light. So when I started seeing articles about "Scandi" styles – all about light, clean lines, and natural materials – I realized I'd been doing that for years! Simple, sheer white curtains that let the sun pour in, maybe a natural wood blind. It makes the room feel so much bigger and calmer. And in a busy house like mine, calm is always a good thing!
And talk about trends, have you seen all the "pop of red" stuff lately? I saw a picture in a magazine the other day, and it reminded me of this old quilt my grandmother made. It has these rich, deep red squares, and I draped it over my sofa for years before anyone called it a "trend." It just made the room feel warmer, cozier. It’s funny how what feels good and familiar eventually comes back around as the latest thing. I even picked up a couple of red throw pillows from Marshalls in Hackettstown last month, and they look great with that quilt!
The key, I think, is not to chase every single trend, but to see what resonates with you and your life. My home has evolved over time, just like I have. I’ve incorporated little bits and pieces that I love, whether they were "in style" at the moment or not. That’s why my house never feels dated. It feels lived-in, loved, and always just right for me and my family here in Lebanon. It’s a mix of old, new, and a whole lot of heart.
Speaking of making things "just right," I actually had the folks from Budget Blinds of Phillipsburg out a few years ago when I finally replaced the old blinds in the bedrooms. Their customer service was top-notch, and the installer was so friendly and efficient. I mean, they really listened to what I wanted and helped me find durable, good-looking blinds that fit my budget. It just goes to show, you can get quality and a great look without breaking the bank. And that, to me, is the best trend of all.
