Press Release: Budget Blinds® Serving Seattle NW Announces New Safer Continuous Loop Cord Tension Device on Its Signature Series® Window Treatments

Seattle, WA – Budget Blinds serving Seattle NW announced that its Signature Series® window treatments will feature a new Continuous Loop Cord Tension Device, which will enhance the safety of the product line’s cellular shades, pleated shades and Roman classic shades with continuous loop cords. The new cord tension device inhibits shade operation unless the device is mounted to the wall. This change was made in anticipation of stricter safety standards being made to the Window Covering Safety Standard, ANSI A100.1. “This new tensioner is another layer of protection for the homeowner,” said Arnie Perez, owner of the Budget Blinds franchise serving Seattle NW. “Simple things like properly mounting a cord tensioner to a wall can make a world of difference with regard to safety. This new tensioner ensures that this important safety step is being taken by the installer and the homeowner.” Dangling window cords have been involved in over 200 strangulation deaths of young children since 1990 in the U.S. according to the Window Covering Safety Council. In Canada, 28 strangulation deaths involving window treatment cords have been reported since 1986, according to Health Canada. Perez explained that a continuous loop cord can be made safer by simply making sure that they are properly secured to the wall. Earlier versions of tensioners were open plastic loops that mounted to the wall to keep the continuous cord loops taunt. Today’s tensioners are enclosed to prevent tampering and breakage. The new tensioner featured on Budget Blinds’ Signature Series® products goes one step further than other enclosed tensioners by inhibiting operation unless the device is properly secured to the wall. The new tension devices were first installed on Signature Series® window treatments on July 27, 2009. In addition to this new tension device, Budget Blinds has a variety of cordless window treatments which eliminate operation cords that can be very tempting, but dangerous, playthings to small children and animals.
