Signature Murano - Bending Over Backwards

Tuesday, 26 April 2011 11:59 by suzi

In the next few weeks, we'll be announcing some very cool new things! New Colors! New Fabrics! New Products that you're not going to find anywhere else!

In the meantime, let me tell you a bit more about a product you can find at Budget Blinds that you might not find anywhere else! It's called Signature Murano. It's a flexible, fabric louvered blind that allows filtered light to permeate your space while preserving privacy. It operates like a traditional blind you may have in your home, but unlike a traditional blind, it will hold up to an errant pass during an indoor football game, repeated peeks through the blinds to see who's at the door, damp areas like the kitchen or bath, and much more.

We'll be telling you more about this product in the near future. In the meantime, here's a peak at how Signature Murano looks in one real life application in a family room. (Photo Courtesy of Budget Blinds of Ramapo & Orange County, NY)

Eight Tips to Make Your Home Bloom on a Budget

Budget Blinds Offers Décor Ideas for Budget-Conscious Homeowners

As winter is edged out by spring many homeowners are eager to refresh their homes while being mindful of their budgets. The good news is homeowners don’t need to break the bank to spruce up the place.

“There are many budget-conscious things homeowners can do to polish the look of their homes for summer,” said Tracy Christman, vice president of Budget Blinds' Vendor Alliance.

Budget Blinds offers these suggestions to brighten your rooms for spring:

• While paint color can change the mood of a room, window coverings can change the way light reacts with that color. Cellular shades, plantation shutters, and blinds can also prevent heat gain, which reduces energy use and costs.
• Adding a simple drapery panel to an existing window treatment softens harsh angles, adds a bit of drama and makes a room more inviting.
• Professional decorators repeat an accent color three times in a room – once in the lower third of the room, once in the middle third and once in the upper third of the room. Budget Blinds suggests repeating that accent color with a drapery panel, coordinating throw pillows, and an area rug.
• To save some money when buying a drapery panel, ask your style consultant about stopping the fabric at the floor rather than allowing it to puddle.
• Swap your drapery panels and accessories seasonally for décor that always seems new.
• You may wish to choose faux wood over real wood. The benefit is faux wood resists warping better than real wood and is an excellent choice for humid rooms like kitchens and baths.
• The thing to keep in mind is to wisely invest in your home décor. Emphasize the item's value over how inexpensive the item is.
• The cheapest item may not be durable enough to withstand the rigors of your lifestyle, and you’ll spend more to replace it than if you’d purchased the better value item.

My Mother's Style

Friday, 7 May 2010 04:34 by Suzi

Mother's Day is this Sunday, so I've been thinking a lot about Mama Lou. My mom is a world-class cook and a great nurse; sadly, she wasn't blessed with an eye for design.  Dad thought he was pretty good at it, and his style informed our family room. Unfortunately, Early American Man Cave isn't exactly a good style to which to aspire.  Frankly, it looked like Archie Bunker and Louie De Palma collaborated on the design of our family room.

When they moved, I bought the house. I had a plan. I wanted a beach house. I wanted to walk in and feel like I had just stepped into summer at the beach. Working with the folks at Budget Blinds helped me overcome my genetic shortcomings regarding style.

I'm happy to report, I'm on my way to having the beach house. The dark wood panelling in the family room has been replaced with a Tiffany box blue trimmed with white. The tired, decade old vertical blinds were replaced with gorgeous woven wood shades in with chocolate room darkening liners. The liners really cut the glare on the television screen, while the woven wood warms and adds a natural element to the space.  Maybe I'll add some eye candy and layer a billowy sheer drapery over the woven woods to complete the look.

The guest room is as close to done as it gets. I took inspiration from a simple throw pillow I found. I went bold with the accent wall color -- navy blue paint that I swirled on with a sponge to invoke waves. The bedding is striped with shades of navy, lime, unripe lemon and white. I even found a navy blue jewel to accent the ceiling fan pull. The room is waiting for its beautiful LaTour Trilight Shade and maybe a reading chair. But it's comfortable -- really comfortable. It's stocked with all those little things you'd find in your hotel room just in case my guest forgot something.

The best part is my mom loves what I've done; I think she's living vicariously through my design, but she doesn't visit nearly enough!
